ONE OF Hampshire's leading developers has unveiled plans to bulldoze a former school and replace it with almost 30 new homes.

The award-winning Linden Homes has submitted an application to redevelop the old Langdown Infant School, which has closed because of falling pupil numbers.

Linden is asking New Forest District Council for permission to build 27 properties on the site in Lytton Road, Hythe.

If the scheme goes ahead, the 30-year-old classrooms will make way for a block of eight flats, five detached houses, a terrace of four houses and two flats, three pairs of semi-detached houses and two other homes.

A design statement accompanying the application says the classrooms date from the 1970s and are of little architectural merit.
