DRUG support groups are advising anyone concerned about the warning over taking potentially contaminated Ecstasy in the city to contact them.

The warning that a "bad batch" of Ecstasy could be circulating in the city was issued by police after two people were admitted to hospital having taken the drug.

As reported in yesterday's Daily Echo, detectives leading the investigation said they would have to wait a week for results on tablets found at the hotel where the couple were staying to confirm whether they were contaminated.

The couple, a 23-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man, were admitted to intensive care at Southampton General Hospital on Saturday after staff at the Highfield House Hotel were told the woman had collapsed in a room and the man was unwell outside.

The pair were discharged on Sunday after treatment.

A 24-year-old man from Birmingham has been released on police bail after being questioned on suspicion of possession and supply of drugs.

Drug advice organisations in the city say they have not received a significant increase in the number of calls in light of the warning but that advisers would be aware of the warning when giving advice.
