MORE than 2,000 council workers in Southampton are to go on strike over job cuts and privatisation plans.
Southampton City Council employees will strike next Tuesday after they voted for industrial action in protest over plans to transfer 700 jobs to private sector company Capita.
Workers voted by 73 per cent for strike action and by 83 per cent for action short of strike action in a recent ballot by workers' union UNISON.The action, short of strike action, will start on March 26 and will include refusing to attend meetings with Capita, not covering for vacant jobs, not working unpaid hours, not using council mobile phones or laptop computers.
