A Southampton chef has admitted kissing a 15-year-old girl after he ran away with her – sparking a huge police manhunt.

Michael Britten previously told a court he abducted the teenager on August 10 last year before being located by officers on the Isle of Wight.

Police launched a desperate search following the disappearance of the pair and the girl's mother pleaded for her to come home.

Britten, of Parsonage Road, Northam, also admitted possessing indecent photographs of a child at the city's crown court.

The 33-year-old admitted sexual activity with a child and that he intentionally touched her by kissing her in August last year.

The court heard Britten has brain damage after being hit with a rock when he was six years old.

Britten, who worked in the kitchen at Yates's pub in Southampton, will be sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on June 1.

He was granted bail under the condition he does not contact the teenage girl or her mother.
