A NEW FOREST retailer is celebrating two decades serving groceries at the heart of his community.

Mike West bought the village shop, Netley View Post Office and Stores in Fawley Road in 1995 because he was keen to be his own boss.

Since then it has been converted into a Costcutter franchise and rebuilt and extended and 16 people currently at the store.

He said: "Shopping habits have definitely changed with customers coming into the shop much more frequently allowing our great personal service to really shine through.

"The Post Office plays a vital role in the community but the internet has substantially changed how it is used. "These days we are dealing with fewer letters and pensions and significantly more parcels with the rise of online shopping.

"I would like to thank the local community for their support over the last 20 years. Without their support we would not be celebrating this milestone."

Costcutter regional manager Rodney Tucker said: “We congratulate Mike on his achievement and are delighted to be able to support him in the continued development of his business within the community.”

Mike was presented with a plaque and an £80 gift card from the Post Office in recognition of his long service.
