POLICE say low levels of crime at the Isle of Wight festival can be attributed to teamwork between different agencies.

A detailed policing operation was put into practice to try and ensure the safety of festival-goers and residents during one of the busiest weeks of the year on the island.

Thousands of music-lovers travelled over to the island to see acts including Fleetwood Mac, Blur, and Kool and the Gang.

Crime levels were consistent with previous years and Isle of Wight Festival policing commander chief superintendent Scott Chilton said: “Working closely with other agencies through the event’s safety advisory group is always vital and the outcome we’ve achieved is keeping tens of thousands of festival-goers safe in and around the festival site at Seaclose Park.

“This was a policing challenge, which Hampshire Constabulary met successfully again, thanks to planning, professionalism and effective partnership working.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of the Isle of Wight Festival 2015, as well as the good-natured attitude of the vast majority of festival-goers, which ensured this remained a safe, low-crime event.”
