SOUTHAMPTON slimmers have helped raise more than £25,000 by ditching the clothes they are determined will never fit again.

Slimming World members across the city bagged up all their old clothes that were too big for them as part of the Big Slimming World Clothes Throw and donated them to Cancer Research UK.

By teaming up with the parcel store firm Doodle in Southampton, a total of 1,072 bags were filled and donated - with each bag raising up to £25 for the charity.

Catherine Fox, from Slimming World, said: “As our members are so sure they’ll never need the clothes they’ve slimmed out of again they couldn’t wait to bag them up and donate them to charity and the support of Doddle has made the process easier than ever for consultants in Southampton.

"With figures showing that one in two people are diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime and that being overweight can increase the chance of developing the disease, it’s vital we spread the message that healthy eating, being physically active and losing weight by adopting healthy habits all help reduce the risk of developing cancer.”
