HOW MANY TATTOOS DO YOU HAVE?

Eight in total

WHY DO YOU LOVE TATTOOS?

I’ve always loved them. As a child my uncle had my name tattooed on his chest and I remember feeling like it was the most amazing thing ever. I got my first tattoo at 18 and it was awful, a tacky heart on my hip. Tattoos give me confidence with my body and after losing four stone, I feel better about myself and my tattoos definitely enhance the way I feel. They also give me my own way of marking certain occasions, such as weight loss, losing my younger brother, having my children and winning my first boxing match.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TATTOO?

I can’t answer that at all. Other than my children’s names it’s too hard to choose. They now all mean so much to me I really couldn’t pick. Each one tells a story and I have such an emotional connection with each of them that I couldn’t single one out.

WHERE WAS IT DONE AND ROUGHLY HOW MUCH?

All of my work is by Karl Joyce who owns The Tattooed Gentleman in Woolston. He’s incredibly talented and really friendly, which when your spending so much time with someone is really important. I don’t know how many hours or money we have spent. It’s been two years to get to this stage, I work hard and save up. It’s my treat to myself now and then.

ANY TATTOO REGRETS?

I regret the silly off the wall bits I had done as a teen. But with Karl’s help we are slowing covering them up. Tattoos have evolved so much over the years from tacky to really artistic. I just wish I hadn’t wasted my skin.
