SOME familiar faces with sci-fi fans have been descending on a major Hampshire convention this weekend.

The fifth Doctor Who, Peter Davison, John Challis, who played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, and Eastenders star John Altman are just some of the well known faces set to attend the H-Con event at Eastleigh’s Fleming Park Leisure Centre today and tomorrow.

Alongside the stars, residents have the chance to test out their lightsaber skills, meet characters from hit sci-fi films, see iconic cars from the silver screen and quiz those that have been part of some of the most famous sci movies ever made.

Organised by brothers Chris Tarrant, from Townhill Park, and David Tarrant, from Midanbury, the event is it looks set to attract people from Hampshire and beyond, raising money for Starlight Children’s Foundation - a charity that grants the wishes of seriously ill children.

They have been running conventions in Hampshire for the last 10 years, but this is their biggest one yet.

Others names familiar to sci-fi fans set to appear include Sarah Sutton, companion to the fourth and fifth Doctor Who, Arti Shah, who was a goblin in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and stand in for Rocket in hit film Guardians of the Galaxy and Chris Parsons who played K-3PO and 4-LOM in Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

Chris Bunn, the original Stormtrooper in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, is offering visitors the chance to be pictured with him in the full stormtrooper outfit.

There are also costume designers and stunt doubles.

Residents can take part in question and answer sessions with the sci-fi stars throughout the weekend, get pictures with them and star in their own sci-fi movie still.

They will also be able to meet characters from hit films including R2-D2, Ironman , Chewbacca and K-9.

A number of iconic cars featured in films will be on display at points over the weekend.

These include the Batmobile from the 1989 Batman film, The Transformers Bumblebee, the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future, Herbie and Lightning McQueen from the animated Pixar film Cars.

A Jedi lightsaber training academy for all ages, run by stunt double Andrew Lawden, who worked on Star Wars and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, runs on Sunday.

Exhibitors will be offering a host of movie collectables, posters, figurines, autographs, models and vintage toys, comic books and custom clothing.

There will be a vintage game zone where visitors can play console games from their childhood.

Portsmouth Amphibian and Reptile Club will also be bringing down animals including a 13 foot Burmese python while there will also be a planetarium hosting educational shows.
