HUNDREDS of people took part in a sporting event that aims to keep alive the spirit of the London Olympics.

The Eastleigh Community Games aims to rekindle the spirit of the Olympics which gripped the nation three summers ago.

An estimated 250 families took part in the event on Saturday at the park in Kingfisher Road.

They were encouraged to take in sports they might not normally consider.

One of the organisers from the Eastleigh Games 2012 Legacy Group was Daisy Robinson.

Daisy, who like all the organisers was a volunteer ‘games maker’ in London 2012, said: “It went really well. We had more people than last year and trying out new activities.

“London 2012 was a great springboard for people to come together and encourage more participation in sport. We really want to keep that going.”

As well as sports there was a bouncy castle, wacky races and face painting.

Daisy hopes to be a games maker at the Rio Olympics next year.
