A HAMPSHIRE leisure complex was evacuated last night.

More than 100 people were evacuated from Leisure World, in Southampton’s city centre, after water started leaking in through the roof.

One cinema-goer was in the middle of watching the film Legend when the movie suddenly froze, all the lights came on and the manager walked in announcing that everyone needed to get out due to the leaking roof.

Those inside all of the screens were escorted out through the fire exits.

Australian tourist Zoe Crook, 24, from Geralton near Perth said: "It was extraordinary. One second we were watching the climax of Legend all about the Kray gangster twins, the next second the film froze, all the lights came on and a manager announced we had to abandon the building due to flooding.

"At first we thought it was a spoof prank, but then we realised she was serious.

"We all had to file out via the fire exit into the pouring rain. We saw other people coming out of other emergency exits.

"There was no panic, only bemusement at what had happened.

"We're all pleased though with our guest vouchers and the promise of refunds.

"Looking inside, the floor did look wet in places and all the staff were really apologetic. "

Catherine Tate, 18, was in the cinema with her boyfriend David Smith, 25. They are in Southampton on holiday from Johannesburg and were watching Straight Outta Compton.

Catherine said: “It was really annoying because we had just got to the good bit of the film, we were about half way through Straight Outta Compton when a man came in and said there had been a leak in the roof and we had to leave.

David added: “It was really annoying but they did offer us free tickets.”

Staff at the Odeon declined to comment, although a member of worker at a restaurant in the centre, who did not wish to be named, said he had been told the leak is affecting the screens of the cinema.
