A £130,000 sports car crashed into a ditch and burst into flames.

Two fire crews spent hours battling a flaming black Audi R8 coupe after the driver lost control and crashed into a ditch last night.

The £134,500 vehicle caught fire on the A27 link road between Segensworth and Whiteley carrying the driver and a passenger.

Fire engines from Fareham and Hightown were called out to the incident at 6.15pm Sunday evening and were only called off at 8.45pm after the incident had been cleared.

The car was completely destroyed by the flames and firefighters attending had to use two sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a compressed air foam jet to finally extinguish the blaze.

The driver and passenger managed to exit the vehicle themselves and were unharmed.

A spokesperson for Fareham fire service said: “It was difficult because the fuel kept reigniting and the tires kept burning.

“We then had to wait for the recovery to come and helped drag it out of the ditch.”
