THE OPENING of a new retail mega store is set to bring 93 jobs to Hampshire.

The TK MAXX and HomeSense store will span across 38,659 sq ft of Hedge End Retail Park will offer residents discounted high street brands, as well as branded homeware.

The estimated £4m development owned by TJX Europe, will be one of the first stores to pair TK Maxx with its sister-brand HomeSense in the UK, creating jobs in sales, management and delivery.

Eastleigh Borough Council hopes the new store will not only encourage more people to shop in the area, but also bring in younger shoppers.

Councillor Louise Bloom said that having discounted stores will see more money being spent and redistributed in Hedge End.

She said: “Having stores like TK Maxx and HomeSense, which are such recognised brands, opening in Hedge End we hope it will appeal to the younger shoppers in the area.

“Anything which will help boost the number of jobs in the borough has to be a positive.

“We saw it when the Next store opened, there was a whole spread of jobs which became available, from sales jobs on the floor, to management it offers up a lot of great opportunities.

“With 93 jobs being created we hope that we will see an increase of money being spent in Hedge End, rather than people travelling six miles into Southampton to do their shopping.””

The combined store will be opened at 10am, on October 22, offering discounts on high street brand of up to 60 per cent.

Spokesperson for TK Maxx and HomeSense, Deborah Dolce said: ”We think that shoppers will love having TK Maxx and HomeSense together on their doorstep.

“Both stores offer a huge choice of great value style for the wardrobe and the home all under one roof at up to 60 per cent less than other brands.”
