PET lovers across Hampshire are being given the chance to get their “paws” on a pair of celebrity shoes.

The likes of singing stars Ed Sheeran and Jessie Ware, Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton and comedian Jo Brand are all giving their signed and customised footwear to the Blue Cross in a bid to help vulnerable pets.

A range of shoes, slippers and trainers are all up for grabs from the stars in an online auction which will launch next week and animal lovers across the county will have a chance to make a bid.

The auction has been launched for the charity’s Steps for Pets campaign which has urged people to get moving in any way possible to raise money for sick, injured and homeless pets.

The charity, which has a centre in West End, Southampton, has been asking people across the UK to help them reach 10million steps, through walking, running, dancing or jumping in exchange for sponsorship money.

Actress Carley Stenson, currently starring in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in London’s West End, has also donated a pair of shoes to the cause.

She said: “As a dog owner myself, it’s heart-breaking to know that there are so many pets out there that don’t have a loving home. That’s why I’m delighted to support Blue Cross, and I hope pet lovers across the UK will get involved and take Steps for Pets to help raise funds – Britain’s pets need your support.”

Danielle Mason, rehoming centre manager at Southampton Blue Cross, said: “This is a really exciting chance to snap up a souvenir of your favourite celebrity and every penny raised will help us to help more pets. Don’t miss your chance to make a bid.”

Money raised by the Steps for Pets auction will help pets like Alan, a boxer dog puppy that was brought to Southampton Blue Cross with a badly broken back leg.

As the break wasn’t healing, vets decided that the best option was to amputate Alan’s leg. Alan needed lots of extra care and strict rest before eventually going on to find a happy new home with a big sister who is also a boxer.

The celeb shoes up for grabs include paw print-themed trainers decorated by dog-loving popstar Jessie Ware, Jo Brand’s favourite slippers, specially customised with bells to amuse her cats and pimped up plimsolls from campaigner and journalist Jemima Goldsmith.

The auction will take place for one week from October 12 till October 18, to find out more, visit bluecross.org.uk/stepsforpets.
