“YOU don’t have to be a runner to be a part of the ABP Southampton Half Marathon and 10K.”

That’s the message from Southampton’s port, which is urging local residents to get involved in this year’s event, on April 24, by cheering on runners.

As headline sponsor of the event, ABP Southampton is encouraging groups and charities across the city to act as ABP Milemakers, cheering on runners at each mile and keeping them motivated with everything from inspiring placards to sweets and water.

Every charity or community group that acts as an ABP Milemaker will receive a £200 donation from ABP after the event and the group that is voted the most motivational on the day by the runners themselves will receive a special £500 prize.

ABP Southampton director, Nick Ridehalgh, said: “This is just the spirit we want all ABP Milemakers to embrace. Running just over 13 miles is no mean feat so the motivation and cheer that the ABP Milemakers provide will make a huge difference to those taking part.”

Nick is urging groups across Southampton to put themselves forward as milemakers and added: “Whether you’re a scout group, cheerleading team or school, we’d love you to play a very important role in this historic event for the city.”
