POLICE seized this car after it was driven away from officers who tried to stop it - but then ended up getting stuck in mud.

The driver sped away from officers in Southampton on the afternoon of January 31 but ended up stuck in mud in Mansel Park, before the vehicle was seized for having no insurance.

After the car became bogged down in mud the driver ran away and is being hunted by police, but the passenger, a man in his 20s who actually owns the Peugeot 306, was detained by officers and is helping them with their enquiries.

The man the police are looking for is described as being in his early to mid-20s, white, with short dark hair, patchy short dark facial hair and dark clothing.

Hampshire Constabulary says it is cracking down on cars being driven without insurance, MOTs or tax in Millbrook after a number of recent reports.

A spokesman said: "This affects us all from a road safety point of view. If you know a car is being driven like this please let us know on 101 you can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11 and be anonymous if you wish.

"We'd also like to remind people to let the DVLA know if you have sold your car as quickly as you can as otherwise if someone gets a parking or penalty ticket it will be sent to you and you'll then have to prove it wasn't your vehicle."

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the police on 101, quoting reference 44160047280.
