IT was a proposal that was months in the planning, involved a world-famous location and the help of a pop star - all James King needed was for his girlfriend to say yes.

Crouched on bended knee on the Great Wall of China with a vintage diamond ring in his hand, James waited patiently for his girlfriend Rosie Tillings to turn around so he could finally ask her to be his wife.

The pair were on a holiday of a lifetime, having planned a trip to visit the Chinese landmark before touring Thailand's paradise islands.

Months before James, from Southampton, had decided it would be the place to pop the question but wanted to make sure it was perfect.

So James, who works for a firm which organises charity challenges overseas, enlisted the help of pop artist Jacob Banks. The couple had fallen in love with a cover version of Coldplay's Magic, which he had performed on Radio 1.

After an exchange of messages on social media Jacob agreed to send a video of him performing the track for Rosie with an instruction at the end that she turn around to see what was behind her.

Weeks later, stood before the jaw dropping scenery of the China landscape, James handed Rosie his phone and a set of headphones for her to listen to the all important performance, as he waited patiently behind her on bended knee.

Rosie, 22, who works for Carnival in Southampton, said: "I start watching this video and obviously straight away recognise Jacob Banks who is singing our favourite cover of Magic and my mind starts racing thinking what is going on while obviously trying to take in the fact I am watching a video of Jacob Banks singing to me.

"Eventually the video finishes and I turn around to see James on one knee and I was just in complete shock and my legs were shaking and I said to him, while nervously laughing, 'What are you doing?' and then he asked me and I said yes."

The whole proposal was captured on video by the couple's guide who also took the first snap of the newly engaged pair, who met three years ago while on holiday in Gran Canaria.

James, 28, said: "I just wanted it to be perfect and unique. I don't think I actually asked the question properly but she seemed to say yes."

The couple went on to enjoy a blissful couple of weeks in Thailand before returning to the south coast, where James has since come in from some ribbing from his friends.

"They tell me I have set the bar a bit high with that proposal," he said.

Rosie added: "He literally made it perfect and I don't think I could of even come up with something as romantic and unique if I had planned it myself."
