IT was Saints' return to the big time and delighted fans at Wembley could hardly believe their luck as the goals flew in.

And the team's remarkable 4-1 victory over Carlisle United in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final was exactly six years ago today.

The season marked the first time Saints had entered the competition and it was to prove successful as the team sent 44,000 fans into raptures at the national stadium.

Man of the match Rickie Lambert scored an early penalty before Adam Lallana, Papa Waigo and Michail Antonio put the match beyond doubt.

The only disappointment was a late consolation from Carlisle's Gary Madine but the fans, players, and manager Alan Pardew celebrated in style.
