THE last Southampton shirt worn by Matt Le Tissier is set to fetch at least £1,500 at an auction later this month.

The short-sleeved number seven shirt was worn by Le Tissier during his testimonial match against an England XI at St Mary's on May 14, 2002 and it is also signed by Le Tissier, who was affectionately nicknamed 'Le God' by adoring Saints fans.

The shirt is coming up for sale at Graham Budd Auctions in London on Monday, April 25 and it is expected to sell for between £1,500 and £2,000.

It is mounted in a frame with a brass plaque reading 'Last shirt worn by Matt Le Tissier during his testimonial match'.'

Le Tissier's testimonial at St Mary's was watched by 31,904 fans, which was then the second biggest crowd in Saints' history.

Kevin Keegan, Alan Ball and Peter Beardsley were among the stars who took part in the match, which ended in a 9-9 draw after Le Tissier's son, Mitchell, then ten years old, scored four as a late substitute for the England XI.

Le Tissier's brother,Karl, scored for the Saints. Afterwards, Le Tissier said : "I have had a fantastic night and the fans gave me a reception I will remember for the rest of my life."

Le Tissier scored 161 goals in 443 league appearances for the Saints and won eight England caps.

He was also the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the Premier League and he also scored 47 penalties out of a possible 48.

The Le Tissier shirt is not the only shirt with a Saints link coming up for sale at Graham Budd Auctions.

The day after the Le Tissier shirt is sold, Terry Paine's white, long-sleeved number 19 1966 World Cup England shirt is also expected to sell for between £1,500 and £2,000.

Although Terry Paine, who was 77 last month, did not play for England against West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final, he played in England's 2-0 win over against Mexico as the Three Lions marched towards the tournament's climax.

It was Terry Paine's 19th and final appearance for England. He then had to wait for nearly half a century before he received his World Cup winners' medal.

Medals were eventually presented to Winchester-born Mr Paine – and ten other members of England's 1966 World Cup –winning squad – by prime minister Gordon Brown in June 2009.

Mr Paine – who made a club record 713 league appearances for the Saints between 1956 and 1974 - sold his World Cup medal at Bonhams in 2011 for £27,500.
