TV star and music producer David Gest has died, it has been announced.

The stage producer is known for his appearance in I'm a Celebrity and was found dead in a hotel room this morning.

In 2008 he delighted Millvina Dean, the last survivor of the Titanic, by arriving in Hampshire and donating £3,000.

He had heard she was being forced to sell her treasured possessions and wanted to help.

Along for the ride was his best friend Matt Willis, the former Busted star who won the reality TV show in 2006.

Gest said: “It was a historic event and she is the last survivor of something everybody knows about.

"Young kids, senior citizens, everybody knows about the Titanic and what happened.

“Living in the UK, I thought as an honorary Englishman I could do something good."

Friend Imad Handi said: "It is with great sadness that I can confirm that David Gest has died today.

"David was truly larger than life. He was not just a huge talent and a dear friend but a showbiz icon.
