A motorway was closed after a vehicle caught fire.

The vehicle was found ablaze on the M3 northbound carriageway between junctions 13 and 14 near Eastleigh at 9.29am.

Firefighters from St Mary’s fire station and two crews from Eastleigh arrived and used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to put out the flames.

It is not believed that anyone was injured.

The fire closed off the road but later two lanes werer reopened.

The incident has caused tailbacks on the M3 which has also caused further delays as far as the M27.
