CHILDREN at two Hampshire schools have raised hundreds of pounds in the battle against cancer.

Pupils at Foxhills infant and junior schools staged a Race for Life event in aid of Cancer Research UK, with some children raising as much as £50 each.

Hundreds of pupils, staff and teaching assistants – many dressed in pink and blue – took part in the event.

Lucy Howe, head teacher of the infant school, said: “The atmosphere was fabulous and we all had a really lovely time.

"We started by warming up on the junior school playground and then completed laps of the sports field.

"The track is 400 metres long and most people went round about ten times.

“Several staff have been touched by cancer, either directly or indirectly, and some of the pupils ran for family members affected by the disease.

“Some of the children have raised £50 each, so we expect the total amount to be well into the hundreds.

“Race for Life was followed by a tea and cake sale, which raised further Cancer Research funds.”
