THIS is one of two people officers want to trace as part of a murder investigation of a man from the south.

Gary Stacey died after being attacked in St James’ Street in Newport early in the hours on Sunday February 14.

Officers also want to speak to this man, seen on CCTV walking past the Next store in St James’ Street, moments before the attack at around 3.45am.

He was then seen by Mings Garden Restaurant two minutes later.

A 20-year-old man from Newport, who was questioned by police on suspicion of murder, is on police bail until June 1.

Officers also want to speak to a woman who was seen in Yates in Newport earlier that night on Saturday February 13.

It is believed she spoke to Gary in the smoking area at the back of the pub.

She is described as white, in her early 20s, quite tall and had dark, wavy hair and heavy makeup on her eyes and lips.

She wore a black jumpsuit with straps, heels and possibly a belt.

This woman had tattoos and is thought to have links with local tattoo artists.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: “Officers would appeal to these two potential witnesses to come forward, even if they feel they do not have any relevant information for the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting Operation Smooth.
