A CYCLIST has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital after a crash with a car.
Officers from Dorset Police were called at 12.26pm to reports of the incident on Talbot Avenue, Winton, which involves a male cyclist and a black BMW convertible.
The air ambulance was called and the cyclist has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.
A section of Wimborne Road has been closed by police while emergency services, including a crew from South Western Ambulance Service, are on the scene.
The air ambulance landed at Wallisdown Rec.
The road closure is on a section of Wimborne Road leading up the roundabout which connects to Talbot Avenue.
Acting sergeant Craig Tatton said: "The road is going to remain closed while we carry out investigation of the scene because we believe the cyclist suffered a quite serious injury."
Traffic is being diverted along Sterling Road.
Police have closed Wimborne Road from St Luke's Road to the roundabout. The roundabout is also blocked at the first exit towards the A347 for the town centre.
