AN investigation has today been launched after the body of an 82-year-old woman was found following a blaze at a Hampshire home.

Firefighters fought their way into the pensioner’s house in Rectory Road, Farnborough, at 10.02am, after a neighbour raised concerns that someone was believed to be inside.

A body of a pensioner was found in the building and she was declared dead at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

Police say her death is not being treated as suspicious and officers and fire crews have launched a joint investigation into the cause of the blaze.

Crews from Rushmoor fire station used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put out the flames.

Area Manager Stew Adamson, Head of Community Safety, said: “Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

“We are now working to establish the cause and we urge all our residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms and test them regularly.

“Anyone who sees or detects any sign of fire should raise the alarm and call 999 immediately.

“We would encourage anyone with elderly or vulnerable neighbours to keep an eye on their welfare and raise any concerns with the relevant agency.”
