FIREFIGHTERS are used to rescuing pets from fires - but this one had a little more bite.
Crews from St Mary's and Redbridge saved a pet tarantula from a house after a blaze broke out in Cedar Road, Southampton, at abou 11pm on Wednesday night.
The team using breathing apparatus, jets and ventilation techniques to get to the spider, which was in a first floor flat.
A section on the bottom of the tank had melted and firefighters believe the fire was started by a heat pad in the arachnid's tank.
The spider was taken to the RSPCA who plan on temporarily housing it with a vet.
