A CYCLIST who was left with life-threatening injuries after he was knocked off his bicycle by a stolen motorbike remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Chris Baddams, 38, of Millbrook, Southampton, is being treated at Southampton General Hospital's neurological unit after suffering severe chest and head injuries, including a fractured skull.

He was knocked of his bike by two joyriders on a stolen black and red Kawasaki 125 motorbike at the junction of Windermere Avenue and Evenlode Road in Millbrook.

Police have arrested an adult and two youths in connection with the accident, as reported in later editions of yesterday's Daily Echo.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He has been bailed until October 1, pending further inquiries.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, grievous bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He was bailed, pending further inquiries, until July 31. A second 15-year-old remains in custody.

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses who may have seen the collision, which happened shortly after midday on Wednesday, to get in touch.

They would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw two youths riding the Kawasaki bike in the Millbrook area on Wednesday morning.

The road remained closed for several hours after the accident. Residents living in the area reported seeing two youths, thought to be in their teens and wearing hoodies, fleeing the scene, with the motorbike and their crash helmets left in the road.

Anyone with any information is asked to ring the Totton roads policing unit on 0845 045 4545, quoting Operation Badger.
