STAFF at a Hampshire hospital have been screened for tuberculosis after a healthcare worker was diagnosed with the lung disease.
Patients who have stayed in a specific ward at Gosport War Memorial Hospital are being contacted and invited for check-ups to make sure they have not also been infected.
Chest x-rays will determine whether anyone has been passed the disease, but health chiefs are moving to reassure members of the public that there is little chance they are at risk.
The Health Protection Agency says even if someone has been infected with TB, treatment should prevent it developing into the active disease.
Portsmouth NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, has already screened the worker's close contacts and colleagues as a precaution.
