A cyclist has died in a road crash on a Hampshire road.

Police have launched an appeal after the cyclist died in a collision on the A31 near Four Marks.

It took place on the dual carriageway section of the A31 between Four Marks and Chawton, at around 5.45pm last night on Friday with a man riding a bicycle.

Both the car and the cyclist were on the eastbound carriageway when the collision took place.

The 61-year-old cyclist sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 62-year-old driver of the Peugeot 207 was taken to Basingstoke hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed in both directions for five hours for the recovery of the vehicle and for an investigation to take place.

A police spokesman said officers are appealing for anyone who saw the car or the cyclist before the collision took place, or the collision itself, to come forward.

Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Jim Chapman, at Havant Roads Policing Unit, on 101, quoting Operation Octagon.
