SOME may regard eating a three course meal while being suspended 100 feet in the air as the height of fine dining.

For others who haven’t got a head for heights, it may be more of a stomach churning experience.

Next year Southampton is to host a spectacular Sky restaurant – a table for 22 guests suspended by a giant crane above the city’s Guildhall Square.

Events in the Sky will set its restaurant in town from September 21 to 24 and will offer everyone the opportunity to have a luxury gastronomic experience assisted by a head chef, a sommelier and a waiting team.

Chefs from local restaurants will prepare sophisticated and modern dishes but the list of those involved and the menu will only be revealed next February.

Dale Agar, spokesperson from Events in the Sky, said: “With the success of London in the Sky, we’re looking forward to bringing a stellar line-up of the region’s best chefs and restaurants to Southampton in 2017.

"We promise that this will be a truly unique dining experience, with spectacular views.”

Guests will be able to choose between a 30min breakfast worth £50, a 45min lunch for £125 or a 60 min dinner for £150, while drinks flights are available at the cost of £75.

So far chefs from the reknowned Chewton Glen Hotel from New Milton have been unveiled as taking part in the event.

Andrew Stembridge, managing director at Chewton Glen Hotel, said “We were delighted to receive the invitation to get on board with this exciting event as it launches in Southampton.

"We can’t wait to bring our award-winning chef and fantastic team to the skies over the city, for what will surely be a truly ‘gastro-nautical’ experience.”

People who decide to live this once of a lifetime experience will have to arrive 45minutes before the event to go through the registration and security process.

Once guests arrive they will be safely fastened on their seats the table will be lifted.

A lift supervisor will be with them on board to ensure high security standards and a crew will assist from the ground.

Similar events will be held in Glasgow, Newcastle, London and Bristol during the summer of 2017.
