THE future of a popular Hampshire dancing class is hanging in the balance.

Tracie’s Latin Club in Southampton fears an end to its salsa class if a new venue is not found soon.

Dozens of dancers used to join the salsa lessons run by Tracie Gooch, school director at Tracie’s Latin Club, every Wednesday at Fantini’s restaurant.

But after the Southampton-based diner closed suddenly, they have been looking for a new location.

Tracie said: “If I don’t find a venue, I will have very disappointed dancers who would not be able to dance on other nights, due to their own commitments.

“TLC is a very fun and friendly way to socialise and de-stress yourself so they would all be very unhappy.”

The dance school has its studio at St Barnabas Church Hall in Lodge Road in Southampton but due to the large number of people attending its classes there isn’t enough room for some classes therefore another location is needed.

Tracie added that salsa requires completely different music and cannot be merged with other classes.

“Our classes have a massive following and the respon- sibility to keep my students dancing is paramount, not only for my existing dancers but also for all the new beginners out there who want to start and take a chance and dance,” she said.

Daryl Boswell, 49, businessman, from Southampton, has been attending Tracie’s salsa classes for more than 20 years.

He said: “I would be devastated if we don’t find a venue.

"I hope someone will come up with something soon. It’s vital for us because dance is like oxygen and it’s the most fun you can have.

“It’s also great to socialise and it is hard to explain what it means for us.”

The school celebrated its 20th anniversary with a party for 400 dancers at Winchester Guildhall last September and since then has had more people join.

Tracie is looking for a large wooden dance floor for at least 30-60 dancers which will split into four or five levels – possibly in different areas or rooms – with a car parking next to it.

Classes should be run from 8pm until 11pm and a sound system and a bar at the venue would be preferred.

Anyone who believes they have a venue matching these requirements can email Tracie at info@tracieslatinclub.co.uk.
