TRAVELLERS have been left frustrated by the fog after reports that all flights from Southampton Airport today have been cancelled.

One passenger who was due to fly into Manchester airport at 3pm today, has now being forced to make the four and a half hour train journey.

He said: “In the UK, everything stands still just because of a little bit of fog.

“This wouldn’t happen in somewhere like the US.”

“With the radar technology on today’s airplanes it’s hard to believe they cannot take off.”

Although he and colleagues boarded the plane on time, he said they sat on the aircraft for over an hour with little communication from the airport.

“It was frustrating. The airline didn’t apologise, they didn’t really communicate what was happening,” said the digital marketer.

After waiting for an hour and a half, Mark and his colleagues decided that the only way in which they would make an important morning meeting was to pay £109.00 each for an alternative mode of transport.

Another Southampton passenger said: “There was chaos at the airports as there were no flights departing.”

Southampton Airport have said that passengers should check with their airlines regarding rebookings, some of which can be done online.

In addition, Wightlink Ferries is advising customers that its service between Lymington and Yarmouth will be suspended until mid-morning.

The company has recommended customers booked on that route rebook via Portsmouth-Fishbourne.

This evening, Wightlink has booked a coach to take foot passengers wishing to travel on the Lymington to Yarmouth route to Portsmouth so they can cross the Solent. It will leave from Lymington at 17:00, 18:00 and 21:00.

On the Island, a connecting coach will leave Fishbourne for Yarmouth.

Tomorrow, a coach will depart from Yarmouth for Lymington via Fishbourne and Portsmouth at 06:30 and 08:00. Another coach will also leave Lymington at 08.30 for Wightlink’s terminals in Portsmouth.
