THE WIDOW of Alan Bannon has thanked Hampshire residents for their generosity after Alan’s irreplaceable iPod was stolen.

As previously reported by the Echo, Alan’s daughter Abigail Bannon was given the treasured iPod by her mother and she would lie in bed listening to her father’s songs when she felt sad.

Unfortunately the iPod was stolen from the family’s driveway in Little Lance’s Hill, Bitterne, last Wednesday between 9.15pm and 10pm.

After the story was published, readers rushed to offer iPods and iTunes vouchers.

“It has been a terrible incident but we have been amazed by people’s generosity,” said Charlotte Bannon, who was with Alan from the age of 18.

“It doesn’t mean anything to the person who stole it, but it means everything to us.

“Although we are so grateful for all of the offers, the item was irreplaceable and we are still urging whoever stole it to give it back.”

Alan Bannon, pictured inset, died, aged 38, alongside fellow Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighter Jim Shears in April 2010 tackling a fire in Shirley Towers.
