Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a woman has been left critically injured after falling from a third floor window of a Southampton flat.

The woman who is understood to be in her 20s, is fighting for her life at Southampton General Hospital Police say she fell from the window of a third floor flat in Salisbury Street in Bedford Place on Saturday morning.

As reported police cordoned off part of Salisbury Street, and ambulances and police vehicles were seen in the area.

Landlady at The Lion pub in Bedford Place Tracey Luff said she saw the woman in the street being treated by police. 

She said: "She must have fallen from one of the flats she was in the road underneath the flats.

"I am very shocked, I hope she is okay and she pulls through."

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary said: "Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a woman fell from a third floor window of a block of flats in Southampton this morning, Saturday, February 11.

"It happened shortly after 10.45am at Mede House in Salisbury Street. She was discovered on the ground by police who were called to the scene.

"The woman who is believed to be in her 20s, was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance where she is currently described as in a critical condition.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident and are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or who saw a person leaving the block of flats around the time of the incident to contact them."
