POLICE are continuing an investigation that saw armed officers raid a block of flats in Southampton.
Residents were stunned to see police with weapons enter a three-storey apartment block at the junction of Park Road and Waterloo Road at the weekend.
But police have not released details of what triggered the raid and it is not known if any charges have been brought.
A resident who did not wish to be named said: “I was walking down the street and saw three police wagons. "There were five armed police officers stood outside. They all looked rather happy, like whatever they had done was a success.
“You could always smell cannabis when you walked past (the flats). I always said to my partner that I thought drugs were going on there.”
On Sunday evening a van attached to Operation Fortress, a police campaign to target drugs-related violence in communities across Hampshire, was parked outside.
Police later confirmed that a man had been arrested as part of an on-going investigation.
A spokesman said; "This incident is being contained locally and there is no cause for concern for the wider public. For operational reasons we cannot disclose any further detail at this stage."
