A popular Hampshire theme park has donated £5,000 to a Daily Echo campaign.

Managers at Paulton's Park have brought the total of the #MatchMyMoney campaign up to almost £20,000 of our target.

Managing Director Richard Mancey said: "I am delighted to be able to pledge £5000 in support of a new children’s emergency & trauma dept in Southampton.

"We do and have supported the children’s wards at Southampton General for over 20 years with both cash donations and providing facilities and free visits to the Park as and when requested. This current project is therefore something we would indeed be pleased to support."

As previously reported the Daily Echo is asking Hampshire businesses and organisations to give just £1,000 in aid of the new children's A&E at Southampton general hospital.

When it opens in 2018 it will serve 30,000 children from across the south.

As previously reported, Eastleigh Scouts, Remarkabale PR, Xelabus, Blaze Construction, HairXtensions, Alresford Rotary, Southampton Rugby Football Club, Itchen Cork Lodge and Keygrove have all donated to the campaign so far.

Any money raised will be matched by Hampshire landowners the Barker-Mill Foundation, and then matched again by central government to raise the £4,8million needed to fund the new unit.

It's all the brainchild of Hampshire celebrity couple James Murray and Sarah Parish, who have raised thousands of pounds for Southampton hospital since their daughter Ella-Jayne was treated there in 2009.

Since then then have been raising money for the new unit with #2MillionSteps - their fundraising campaign.
