SOUTHAMPTON popstar Craig David has backed a bid to raise £10,000 for Southampton General Hospital’s cancer ward.

International super-star Craig has thrown his support behind a charity event hosted by Coco Lounge and Bar in Town Quay, Southampton.

It is the second time the singer has supported bar owners, Dowayne Neufville and Wesley Locke.

In a personalised video, the Southampton-born chart-topper gives the pair four meet-and-greet tickets, which are to be raffled tonight.

The winners will be able to meet Craig at his show at the Ageas Bowl on September 1.

Dowayne’s long-term partner, Helena Boyce was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time last month.

The charity event hopes to raise cash for the ward that has supported her battle against cancer.

Speaking in the video, Craig, who went to the former Bellemoor School with the owners, said: “I wanted to send my love to Helena, your partner [Dowayne’s] and everything she is going through right now. I am sending you my love, my positive energy and hope it is a huge success.”

Dowayne said: “Craig has been a great friend and supporter of Coco Lounge and Bar. When he heard what we were doing he really wanted to do something to help.”

Alongside the tickets , there will also be tickets from Red Funnel to the Isle of Wight and David Lloyd family passes up. Tickets for the raffle will cost £1 per strip and donations for the ward will be collected on the door.

There will also be a personalised cocktail created for the cancer ward called, The Pink Ribbon, with all of the proceeds of that drink going to the hospital. Doors open at 4pm and a live funk band will be performing from 7pm.
