TRAFFIC at Southampton General Hospital has built up to "the worst level in years", according to residents.

The car park at the hospital is being upgraded, a process which started at the beginning of the month and is set to continue for another 16 weeks.

One resident, who has been at the hospital every day for the last three weeks, said people will simply have to be patient and wait for the process to be completed.

And today Bluestar buses apologised to customers for lengthy delays caused by disruption in the area.

Mair Laing, 72, from Chandler's Ford said yesterday: "There are certain times of the day when you can just forget parking. 9am and 11am, forget it.

"This is the worst it has been in some years and it's the car park that's caused it. People will just have to be patient and wait for the new car park."

Another resident, David, said he had to get off the bus further away to avoid being late.

He said: "We had to get the bus and walk from five minutes away, which isn't too much fun at my age.

"The car parking is dreadful, and we don't even drive.'
