STUNNING footage shows the amazing moment a dolphin creates a rainbow while swimming in Southampton Water.

The footage, shot by Chris Browning from a Zodiac SRA650 rigid inflatable boat, shows the mammal frolicking in the water before blowing spray into the air and creating the colourful spectacle.

It can be seen circling underneath the surface before emerging and splashing water into the air.

Mr Browning is one of a number of seagoers who have been delighted to come across a dolphin near the city.

The unusual sight caught the imagination of people attending Seawork International, which is being held in the city this week, as well as workers at DP World docks.

Jo Dixie Goodwin, marketing director at PSP, made this video on Tuesday while on a rigid inflatable boat during the Seawork 2017 event.

She said: "I was on a rib in Southampton water and suddenly this huge dolphin appeared!

"Apparently it has been here entertaining the visitors to the show all day.

"I've seen dolphins before but this was the biggest I've seen and he was so close to the boat."

The video below was made by Southampton Water Activities Centre and Active Nation on Friday evening.

A dolphin was also spotted in the River Itchen on Thursday evening.

Social media users took to Twitter and Facebook to show their delight at the sighting.

One wrote: "Hands up who just saw a dolphin in Southampton Water today?"

Another said: "Saw a dolphin in the harbour at Southampton last night.

"I've never seen one before. It made missing the ferry worthwhile."
