IT’S been running for over 32 years.

The event that is – not the participants.

Once a year the tarmac and fields of Stubbington take a pounding as hundreds of runners participate in the annual Stubbington 10k road race.

And January 6, 1991 was no exception, with the contestants giving it there all through Stubbington Village, across country lanes, over open fields and along coastal roads.

Although more categories of race are available to accommodate for a greater range of ages nowadays – the 1991 event had three separate groups – men’s, women’s and wheelchair.

The men’s title was taken by Mark Harris, the female winner was Chris Benning, and Michael Keat came first in the wheelchair race.

Next year’s race is set to take place on Sunday, January 14.
