Sales of creams, both sun and ice, are set to soar as forecasters say Hampshire will be basking in tropical temperatures this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning saying there is a high chance the region will experience temperatures of above 30C.

Met Office chief meteorologist Frank Saunders said: “With high pressure building from the south west and warm air being drawn up from the Azores, much of England will see very warm or hot weather this weekend and into early next week.

“Daytime temperatures will widely be in the mid to high 20s with some central and southern parts reaching the low 30s. It will also feel warm and humid overnight.”

Building heat is predicted to push temperatures above 30C across the county, 10C above average for this time of year.

South Central Ambulance service is also issuing a warning for people to stay safe in the warm weather and use common sense.

A spokesperson from the service said: “We know many people will be out and about this weekend.

“We’d simply ask that they are sensible, cover up and use sun cream and drink plenty of water.”

The service says calls relating to sunburn, dehydration and heat stroke typically increase in hot weather but can be avoided if people cover up and stay hydrated.

Meanwhile, hayfever suffers have been warned to expect very high levels of pollen across the weekend and into Monday.

Tourism is also expected to get a boast over the weekend with thousands of people expected to flock to attractions across Hampshire.

Beaulieu Motor Museum, one of Hampshire’s key tourist attractions is expecting a record attendance at their Simply VW event.

Mark Baulch, head of policy representation at Hampshire Chamber of Commerce said: “With thousands of tourists enjoying the sights and attractions of the county, it will be good for all of the tourist economy, from retailers, hoteliers and bars to museums, gardens and theme parks.”
