TALENTED young people from a city college showed off their creative skills at a night designed to wow the crowds.

Southampton City College was transformed into a stunning display of art, design, illustration and photography as Visual Arts Exhibition 2017 opened to the public.

Finished pieces in sculpture, print making, painting and graphics were all on show while fashion and theatre make-up students strutted their stuff down a catwalk.

Students explained their work to guests hospitality students catered with canapes and drinks made especially for the night.

Principal of City College, Sarah Stannard said: “Our annual Art Exhibition is always a great celebration of our students’ fantastic work and it’s been a great year for our students, with many highlights including their work being exhibited at the City Art Gallery as part of British Art Show 8. We’re very pleased that those students who wish to go on to university have been made offers by their first choice universities and wish them all the very best for the future.”

Creative arts and photography lecturer Victoria Rick said she was “delighted” with the success of the opening night and said: “Well done to all the students for their enthusiasm towards producing a fantastic show that they should all be delighted with. The opening night has been a great success and all the students did the college proud in representing the very best of tomorrow’s future creatives.”

The exhibition is open to the public until June 23. Admission is free and can be viewed during normal college opening hours.
