HUNDREDS of people turned out to enjoy the Netley Marsh Carnival and fete over the weekend.

Now in its 27th year, the procession left from the Gamekeeper Pub and winded its way to St Matthew Church field, with floats and walking groups dressed up in colourful costumes.

The parade ended with a fete for all the family to enjoy.

Ian Sims, group Scout leader, said: "It was a really good day overall and very busy - probably around 400 or 500 attended.

"At the fete we had things like the New Forest Brass Band, a local ukelele group, traditional stalls like the coconut shy.

"I would also like to thank Solent Skip Hire for helping us free of charge for the day."

The judging panel tasked with deciding the winning entries was Keri Wallance, district commissioner for New Forest North Scouts, Francis Joyce, Sue Simm from Murphy Telecommunications and Cllr Neville Penman.

In the floats category, New Forest North Chestnut Beavers were the winners with their octopus garden, Rufus Cubs came second as pirates, First Netley Marsh Guides were third dressed as mermaids and Phoenix Scouts were 4th for their surf party entry.

In the walking group, 1st Rainbows were the winners for 'Little monsters in the deep' and 2nd Netley Marsh Brownies came second for their entry 'Brownies go diving.'

In the non-walking category, 1st place went to 1st Netley Marsh Brownies as deep sea divers, Netley Marsh Infant School were second for their entry 'Just keep swimming' and Woodlands Pre-School were third for their theme of jelly tots.
