POLICE have launched a hunt for a driver who failed to stop after a woman was injured in a crash.

Emergency services rushed to Osborn Road in Fareham at around 12.30pm today after the collision involving what was described as a red Nissan Micra. The driver, who has been described as an elderly man, left the scene.

Ambulance crews rushed the 59-year-old woman to Queen Alexandra Hospital where she was treated for head and facial injuries.

Officers are now appealing for information and urging the driver of the car to come forward.

PC Peter Sarginson, from the Havant Roads Policing Unit, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who saw this incident take place, or can assist us with identifying the vehicle and the driver involved.

“This area of road would have likely had a constant flow of traffic and occasional pedestrians using the footpath, so it is likely that someone saw what happened.

“We are particularly keen to trace a woman at the scene who we believe has useful information for us, but who had already left the area by the time police arrived.

“In addition, I would urge the drive of the small red car to come forward and speak to us so we can establish exactly what has happened.”

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, quoting reference '44170287271', or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
