TWO south coast restaurants have been added to a spectacular sky dining experience coming to Southampton in September.

Christchurch’s Captain’s Club Hotel and Southampton’s Kuti’s Brasserie have joined an exciting roster of restaurants taking part in Southampton in the Sky in Guildhall Square.

The experience will offer people the opportunity to have a luxury gastronomic experience prepared by an experienced chef around a table with seats suspended 100ft above the ground.

It follows an announcement by organisers that it would run for two extra days between Friday, September 21 and Wednesday, September 26 following a sell-out for the first four.

There will be five sittings each day, two for lunch and dinner which will be run by a different restaurant each day, along with one for breakfast which will be run by Mettricks. Southampton bar Orange Rooms will be serving cocktails at sunset each night.

During the experience, guests will be safely fastened in their seats before the specially designed table is lifted into the air by a giant crane.

Representing Kuti’s Brasserie is talented chef Peter Gomes who since 2008 has been a contributor to the growth and development of the restaurant by finding innovative ways to present Indian food in all its ethnic variety.

Peter, who will be cooking dishes including Chicken Chom Chom, Chicken Bahar and Sea Bass Moilee, told the Daily Echo he felt “nervous but ready to try a new experience”.

He added: “I was overwhelmed when I heard the news that I was participating Southampton in the Sky. Personally, is it something that I am really looking forward to.

“I’ve had a journey in the industry working all over the world but this will be a life-changing experience which I encourage anyone to participate in and try.”

Meanwhile, the Captain’s Club Hotel will be represented by head chef Andrew Gault, who has worked in some of the world’s finest kitchens including the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland and the iconic Burj al Arab in Dubai.

Andrew’s menu for the event includes a 27-day aged slow cooked bavette of beef, smoked potato mash, creamed chanterelle mushrooms along with butternut squash fondant and ratatouille of Mediterranean vegetables.

Other restaurant partners taking part include the Chewton Glen Hotel, Tapas Barcelona, Beresfords, the Jetty at Southampton Harbour Hotel and Supermarine at Centenary Quay Waterfront.

Dale Agar, from organiser Events in the Sky, said: “Diners have really been taking advantage of this once in a lifetime event and the response to the initial four days that we offered was phenomenal.

“It’s great that we have now been able to extend the event for an additional two days to benefit those unable to secure tickets for the original four days.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Captain’s Club Hotel and Kuti’s Brasserie as restaurant partners and are confident both additions really add to what we can offer diners during the event.”
