RAIL passengers travelling from Hampshire to London this weekend are set to face severe disruption as planned upgrade works at Waterloo begin.

The works are set to continue until August 28, during which time passengers using South West Trains, from stations including Southampton Central and Winchester, face disruption, delays and extended journey times from reduced services to and from Waterloo.

South West Trains have advised passengers to consider travelling to a different station or via an alternative route if possible, and leaving extra time to complete their journey. The company also advised passengers to avoid the following stations at peak times.

Vauxhall - 07:30 to 08:45

Clapham Junction - 06:45 to 09:30

Surbiton - 07:30 - 09:00

London Waterloo - 17:00 to 18:45

Vauxhall - 17:30 to 18:30

Clapham Junction - 17:00 - 19:30

Wimbledon - 17:00 to 19:00

The following stations will also be closed for all or part of the works:

Chessington South

Chessington North

Earlsfield (weekdays only until 10:00 and between 16:30 and 19:30)

Malden Manor

Norbiton

Queenstown Road

Tolworth

In response to the disruption National Express has laid on additional coach services to London throughout the whole of August.
