SHE is the most advanced and largest warship ever built for the Royal Navy.

Costing a whopping £3.1bn and weighing a staggering 65,000 tonnes, the HMS Queen Elizabeth is now set to enter her Hampshire home later this week.

On Wednesday, HMS Queen Elizabeth will arrive in Portsmouth which will be her home port.

She is the biggest warship ever to be built in Britain and has been undergoing sea trials since setting sail from Scotland's Rosyth dockyard in June.

The 280-metre long ship built by the Aircraft Carrier Alliance will have a top speed of 25 knots and can travel 500 miles a day, and has a total range of 10,000 miles. She can carry up to 40 aircraft.

HMS Queen Elizabeth and identical ship HMS Prince of Wales will replace the now decommissioned HMS Ark Royal and HMS Illustrious.

She will make her historic arrival at approximately 7.10am, where she will be the latest in a long line of famous Royal Navy ships to call the port home.

Weather conditions meant the exact date of the historic moment could not be confirmed until now.

Defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon said: "HMS Queen Elizabeth? will be the Royal Navy's flagship for the next 50 years, keeping us safe by deploying across the seven seas, using her strike power to deter our enemies."
