PLANS for a new 200-home development on the outskirts of a Hampshire village have been unveiled.

Developers Foreman Homes have unveiled the scheme for grazing land land off Providence Hill in Bursledon.

If the plans are approved, associated open spaces will also be created in the area along with infrastructure to provide adequate access from Providence Hill.

Steve Carrington, planning director at Foreman Homes, said: “We are seeking to aid the council in its delivery of much needed housing, and have sought to do so in as conciliatory a manner as possible, whereby we have sought the views of the local populace, engaged with stakeholders, and liaised closely with all affected – over the course of the last 18 months – and now believe that our proposal is appropriate for its locale.”

Mr Carrington added that plans are for a mixed development of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, of which at least 70 will be affordable.

He added: “In its deliberations, the council will no doubt be looking at every element of our proposal in considerable detail, with a strong focus being given to matters of transportation, and we look forward to liaising with them further over the coming months, as this is a development that we are looking forward to delivering in as timely a fashion as possible.”

The proposals also include the provision of a play area and recreational footpaths and hedgerow and tree planting. New vegetation could also be planted at the nearby Windmill Fields Woods, which is a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI), in a bid to encourage biodiversity.

Cllr Keith House, leader of Eastleigh Borough Council, said: “The site is one that we have allocated in our Emerging Local Plan and so the planning expectation is that permission will be given subject to the details of the application.

“We recognise the community will want to have reassurance on issues such as traffic and the environment and we’ll be seeking guidance from the county council on traffic issues.”

Jane Rich, borough councillor for Bursledon ward and chair of Bursledon Parish Council, said: “I think the proposal conforms to the local plan but I have to hear what residents have to say about it before I can make a decision.”
