The first Bestival at Lulworth Castle is underway.

Along with the music, organisers have promised plenty of comedy capers with a line-up of comics and clowns.

But festival-goers are being advised to pack their wellies and umbrellas.

Heavy rain and even thunder are forecast for this afternoon, Saturday and Sunday are looking better, with sunshine forecast, but there could still be light showers throughout both days.

Bestival comedy organiser, Brett Vincent, said: “What a great mix we have for you this year.

“We’ve scoured all the funniest comedians from all over the globe to bring you some of the best comedy you’ll see this side of the Jurassic Coast and beyond.

“Topping our headline triumvirate of comic capers, we’re delighted to welcome Marcus Brigstocke back to Bestival. Bringing the comedy line-up to a triumphant close on Sunday evening, Marcus is a Radio 4 stalwart, who has appeared on every TV panel show known to man, delivering a pitch perfect, searing line in smart, multi-faceted observational comedy."

Star of radio, TV and stage, Marcus has done it all, from acclaimed shows for BBC Radio 4, to regularly appearing on Have I Got News for You, QI and even had a turn as King Arthur in Spamalot. He has also been a festival favourite at Camp Bestivalfor many years.

Mr Vincent added: “Long-time Bestival favourite, Andrew Maxwell, tops the bill on Friday with his in-yer-face fare. A double Edinburgh Comedy award nominee and a regular on your TV, Maxwell is known for his blend of intrepid social commentary and on-point observation.”

Saturday’s headline show, Oh God It’s the Church, is described as a raucous interactive party experience and parody of a Deep South Pentecostal church, brimming with the best of soul, blues and disco tunes, fronted by “insane pastor” Michael Alabama Jackson.

Other comedy highlights include performances by circuit legends The Raymond & Mr Timpkins Review, situational comic Andre Vincent, super-surrealist Tony Law, modern day renaissance women Jayde Adam, and multi award-winning comedian Sarah Callaghan.
