A ROBBER punched a man in a late-night attack before taking £20 and walking away.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident, which happened in Denzil Avenue, Southampton, near the junction with Derby Road.

The 50-year-old victim was walking on the road at some point between 12.45am and 1.15am on Sunday, September 17, when he was approached and assaulted.

The incident happened just two days before a man was stabbed and died in nearby Radcliffe Road, but there is no suggestion that the two events are connected.

The attacker is described as being of mixed race, five feet six inches tall, and of a thin build with a moustache.

He wore a dark brown jacket and had something metal across his knuckles.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "The victim has been treated for his injuries.

"We’re now asking anyone who saw the incident or has any information about it to call Police Staff Investigator Keely Osborne in the Western Investigation Team at Southampton Central Police station on 101."
